About Unitwell & common conversion questions

One workspace for everyday conversions

Unitwell is a free online unit converter for length, weight, temperature, volume, area, time, cooking volume, digital storage, speed, pressure, energy, power, angles, fuel economy, torque, frequency, and density.

Enter a value and choose units, or type a supported phrase such as “150 pounds to kg” or “3/8 inch to mm.” Results include a conversion relationship and equivalent values in other units. Batch mode converts up to 500 values and exports a CSV file.

Kitchen measures converts ingredient volume to approximate weight. Time zones converts a dated local time between zones, including daylight-saving gaps and repeated times.

Common conversion questions

Can I convert fractions and mixed numbers?

Yes. Enter 3/8, 1 1/2, or ⅜ in the measurement box. For example, 3/8 inch equals 9.525 millimeters.

How many grams are in a cup?

It depends on the ingredient. Our reference uses approximately 120 g per US cup for all-purpose flour and 198 g for white granulated sugar. Choose an ingredient in Kitchen to see its weight and source.

Does Unitwell adjust for daylight saving?

The Time Zones tool uses your browser’s time-zone data and the selected date. It flags skipped times and offers a first/second occurrence choice when a clock time repeats.

Are my numbers uploaded?

Unit factors follow standard definitions and the NIST conversion-factor tables. SI units and angles follow the BIPM SI Brochure. Mechanical horsepower and metric horsepower are separate; calories are thermochemical; BTU uses the International Table definition.

US and Imperial gallons are distinct. Fuel economy uses reciprocal relationships: US mpg = 235.2145833333 ÷ L/100 km. Fuel inputs must be positive. Pressure conversions preserve the same reference; converting gauge to absolute pressure requires additional information.

Auto mode displays up to 11 significant digits, with scientific notation for small or large results. Fixed decimals round the display, while calculations use JavaScript floating-point arithmetic. Tiny values are preserved. Temperatures below absolute zero are rejected. These pages are not an independent metrology certification.

Inputs are processed locally. Google Analytics measures visits, selected tool categories, and CSV-export clicks. Our analytics setup strips calculation query parameters from page URLs and does not send converter values or feedback text. Google Analytics may use cookies and device information to measure site use. See Google’s privacy policy. Saved favorites and history use browser storage; clearing browser data removes them. CSV exports happen locally. A shared link includes the calculation in its URL.
